Simon Beckmann, co-founder of Joya: arte + ecología, and artist Luce Choules will present Joya: arte + ecología’s new project Sistemas Efímeros on Sunday 18th of November at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London as part of Explore 2012, the annual RGS-IBG expedition and fieldwork planning weekend.

Sistemas Efímeros (ephemeral systems) is an arts-led, trans-disciplinary collaborative project that seeks different ways to express ideas which will augment the perception of the natural value of arid landscapes. Simultaneously Sistemas Efímeros will promote sustainable and transferable adaptations to land use and water resources at a time of rapid environmental change. Explore 2012 takes place from the 16th to the 18th of November and there will be lectures, workshops and exhibits to help organise expeditions and field research projects in a variety of environments and disciplines. Over 90 leading field scientists and explorers will provide information and advice over the course of the weekend. Sistemas Efímeros es un proyecto artístico, colaborativo y transdisciplinario que busca diferentes maneras de expresar ideas que incrementen la percepción del valor natural de las zonas áridas. Al mismo tiempo, Sistemas Efímeros promoverá adaptaciones al uso de la tierra y los recursos hídricos que sean sostenibles y transferibles en un momento de rápido cambio ambiental. En Explore 2012, que tiene lugar entre el 16 y el 18 de noviembre, habrá conferencias, talleres y exposiciones para ayudar a organizar expediciones y proyectos de investigación de campo en diversos ambientes y disciplinas.
